Norman Presley Oakes - Marked Tree

Norman Presley Oakes, 76, of Marked Tree, died Nov. 11, 2002, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born May 21, 1926 in Guntersville, Ala., he was a farmer. He was a member of Milam Chapel Pentecostal Church of God in Heafer.

He is survived by five sons, William Oakes of Houston, Texas, Charles Oakes of Wilson, Ronnie Oakes of South Bend, Ind., Horace Armstrong of Lepanto, J.R. Armstrong of Osceola; 12 daughters, Ann Smith and Lou Mullins of Marked Tree, Dianna Alexander of Pontotoc, Miss., Lottie Beall of Jonesboro, Christine Armstrong of Keiser, Charlene Pilgrim of Whitton, Mary Amick of Bowman, Maxine Oakes of Wilson, Connie Hendrix of Osceola, Ivy McGhee of Harrison, Peggy Valentine and Martha McGhee of Mountain Home; two sisters, Nolie Durehan of Florence, Ala., and Sadie Hill of Houston, Texas; 17 grandchildren, 95 great-grandchildren and 102 great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Friday at Wilson Funeral Home in Tyronza with Sister Gwen Hooker officiating. Burial was in Mississippi County Memorial Gardens in Osceola under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home in Tyronza.

Friends and family served as pallbearers.
