Nola Mae "Nickie" Powell

Mrs. Nola Mae "Nickie" Powell, 90, of Jonesboro, former longtime Leachville resident, passed from this life Friday, April 25, 2014, at Culpepper Place of Jonesboro. Born in Jan. 15, 1924, in Morris, Okla., she was the daughter of the late John Albert and Grace E. Nichols. Her late husband, Dr. H.M. Powell, practiced dentistry in Leachville for 36 years until his retirement.

Mrs. Powell moved to Jonesboro 25 years ago and joined Southwest Church of Christ where she became very active in the church food pantry. Mrs. Powell served her country during World War II as a lab technician in the Army Medical Corp. She and her family were faithful supporters of the Children's Home in Paragould and in lieu of flowers those wishing to make a lasting memorial are asked to consider memorials to the Children's Home.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her grandson, Charles Bret Powell.

She is survived by two sons, Howard "Doc" Powell and wife Sandra of Tupelo, Miss., and Mark Powell and wife Melanie of Jonesboro. She also leaves five grandchildren Todd Powell, Bryan Powell, Jennifer Thompson, Cory Powell and Audra Powell' and three great-grandchildren, Madison Powell, Asher Thompson and Madison Sullivan.

Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Monday, April 28, at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville with Dr. Jimmy Adcox and Dr. James Park officiating. Burial followed in the Leachville Cemetery.

The family received visitors Monday from 1:30 until service time.
