Hansel Eugene "Gene" Wood, 64, of Jonesboro passed away Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at his home. He was born July 31, 1948 in Caraway to Hansel and Geneva Murray Wood. Gene was the owner of Wood Software, Inc., a graduate of Arkansas State University and a member of the Community of Christ Church. He served eight years in the U.S. Air Force with one year of overseas duty in Thailand. He loved nature and spending time with his friends, family and grandchildren.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Kay Gadberry; a brother-in-law, Bill Gadberry; and a nephew, Dusty Wood.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Ballard Wood; two daughters, Gina (Jack) Fortenberry of Jonesboro and Tracy (Steve) Brock of Tuckerman; two grandchildren, Clara Brooke Fortenberry and Caleb Brock; a brother, Perry (Donna) Wood of Monette; and two sisters, Joan (Bruce) Primm of Jonesboro and Wilma (Berl) Thomas of Bradenton, Fla. He is also survived and much loved by his extended Ballard family.
A celebration of life reception will be held Wednesday, Dec. 12, from 6-8 p.m. at the Community of Christ Church, 919 East Highland in Jonesboro.
Lasting memorials can be made to the Grace Bible Training Center Mission in Paragould.
