Mattie Victoria Copeland Thomas, 91, of Blackshear, Ga., died Tuesday evening, Sept. 9, 2008, at her residence following an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Frank Thomas Sr.; parents, Charles Theodore Copeland and Sarah Henson Copeland; two sons, Herman Stacy and Thomas White; five grandchildren, Thomas Leo White Jr., Gloria Jean Acord, Frankie Thomas III, Matthew John Mattox, and Thomas White.
Mrs. Thomas lived in Arkansas for many years before moving to Ware and Pierce County, Ga., in 1967. She was a homemaker and helped her husband farm.
Mrs. Thomas was a charter member of Pebble Hill Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Theodore Thomas and wife Annette of Lunsford, Leroy Thomas and wife Lori of Mancelona, Mich.; three daughters, Lydia Thrift and husband Ronnie of Waycross, Nellie Swain and husband Edgar, and Leah S. Albritton, all of Blackshear; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
