Mary Louise Shackelford, 74, died Thursday, July 17, 2008, at the Craighead Nursing Center. She was born Jan. 6, 1934, in Caraway to the late Samuel and Stella Rea. She was a homemaker and a member of the Nettleton Baptist Church. She was active in the American Red Cross and the Baptist Student Union.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Brown of Jonesboro and Rhonda Shackelford of Trumann; three brothers, R.H. Rea of Marion, Bill Rea of Niceville, Fla., and Lloyd Dale Rea of Caraway; a sister, Ruth Holloway of Crosby, Texas; two grandsons, Shaun Brown, and his wife Cari, and Zack Brown; a great-granddaughter, Kelcie Werhrum.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Shackelford; a daughter, Mary Alice Shackelford; a brother, Marion Lee Rea.
A celebration of her life was held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 21, at the Nettleton Baptist Church with Rev. Harold Ray and Dr. Stan Ballard officiating. Burial followed in the Nettleton Cemetery under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
Honored to serve as pallbearers were Gary Anderson, Jerry Brown, Charles Mitchell, Bob Mooneyham, Gerald Barker and Jim Isbell and as honorary pallbearers the Sunshine Sunday School Class.
The family requests lasting memorials be given to Hope Circle at NEA Clinic, St. Bernards Hospice or Nettleton Baptist Church.
