Ruth Varner, 82, of Lake City, formerly of Springdale, died Saturday, July 8, 2006, at the Lakeside Nur9sing Center in Lake City. She was born June 2, 1924, in Nettleton to Bill and Effie Wilhelm DePriest.
She was preceded in death by her husband, A.G. "Ham" Varner.
She attended Arkansas State University and taught school in the Caraway School District. She was a licensed social worker and a financial counselor for the Springdale Memorial Hospital for 20 years before moving back to Lake City.
Survivors include three sons, Richard Varner of Lake City, Bill Varner of Ava, Mo., and John Varner of Lake City; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Friendship Cemetery in Springdale with Rev. Jim Huffman officiating.
