Gladys Barnes, 79, of Lake City died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, at the Manila Nursing Center. She was born in Cherry Valley and lived most of her life in the Lake City, Dixie and Shugtown area. She was of the Pentecostal belief.
Survivors include a son, Elzia "Bud" Barnes of Dixon, Mo.; two daughters, Martha "Dolly" Faircloth of Graham, N.C., and Ollie Church of Lake City; two brothers; two sisters; 10 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Boone and Sennie Sumpter; her husband, Elza Barnes; two sons, Terry and Teddy Barnes; and a daughter, Sennie Gauthier.
The funeral was held Wednesday at Emerson Chapel in Lake City with Brother Larry Ward officiating. Burial was in Tryee Cemetery near Cherry Valley with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Sam Faircloth, Curtis Manis, Justin Manis, T.J. Barnes, Scotty Baker, Anthony Faircloth and Jordon Faircloth.
