Bessie Griffin Hetler, 94, of Manila, died Thursday, May 12, 2005, at the Manila Nursing Center.
Born at Dalton, she was the daughter of the late R.T. and Minnie Shride White and had been a Manila resident for most of her life.
She is survived by a son, Dr. Richard Griffin, of Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Vada Adkins, of Manila, and Joan Gibson Bush, of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Paul White of Imboden and Jewel White of Silsbee, Texas; a sister, Marie Robertson of Melbourne; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, J.H. "Swifty" Griffin in 1986 and Harrison Hetler in 1993. She was a longtime member of the Manila First Baptist Church.
The funeral was held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Manila with Dr. Richard Griffin, Rev. William Piercy and Rev. Ferrel Duffel officiating. Burial was in the Manila Cemetery under the direction of Howard Funeral Service of Manila.
