Sammy G. Hicks, 68, of Caraway, Ark., died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at his home after a prolonged illness. Born April 25, 1943, at Milligan Ridge, he was the son of the late Sam David and Mary Stoner Hicks and was a long-time area resident. Mr. Hicks was a brick mason, enjoyed working in his garden, tractors and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Mae Esther Hicks of the home; one daughter, Cynthia Couch, and husband Terry of Caraway; two sons, Byron Hicks of Caraway and Ronnie Crump of Monette, Ark.; five sisters, Nadine Malone of Arizona, Violet Parks of Lonoke, Ark., Pat Ashabranner of Manila, Ark., Denise Buckelew of Wisconsin and Arlene Faulkner of Caraway. Mr. Hicks also leaves nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Teresa Kay.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, at the First Baptist Church in Caraway with Rev. Rick Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in the Caraway Cemetery under the direction of Faith Funeral Service of Manila.

The family will receive visitors from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the church. Pallbearers will be J.D. Schoolfield, Terry Couch, Jordan Couch, Jacob Couch, Caleb Waugh and Bart Stewart. Honorary pallbearers will be Ricci Waugh and Gary Hunt.
