Ladon Halsey

Ladon Halsey, 86, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009 at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born in Monette on August 10, 1923 to the late Chester and Myrte Bray, she was a homemaker and a member of the Monette Church of Christ. She was also a member of the Home Demonstration Club, Monette Church of Christ Ladies Class, Monette P.T.A., and room mother for many years at Monette Schools.

Survivors include a son Jerry Halsey, Sr. and his wife Barbara of Jonesboro; a daughter Jenendal Bibb and her husband W.T. of Monette; three granddaughters, Patti Cannon and her husband David of Sringdale, Penny Wamsley and her husband Mike of Moberly, Mo., and Leah Halsey of Hot Springs; and a grandson, Jerry Lynn Halsey, Jr. and his wife Cheri of Jonesboro; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her husband Orville Halsey, a son Chester Orville Halsey, a sister Brenda Bray, and a brother J.R. Bray.

A celebration of her life was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, at the Monette Church of Christ with Paul Woodhouse and Art Smith officiating. Burial was in Monette Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.

Honored to serve as pallbearers were Steve Cobb, Rolland Cobb, Jimmy Fraser, Bob Blankenship, Wendell Gadberry and Dennis Finch and as honorary pallbearers Lloyd Carmichael, Gene Gathright, Noel Eggers, Wayland McClelland, Bill Harrell, Rodney Malloy, Jimmy Pyland and Ted Finley.

Visitation was held on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at the church.
