Anna Mae Chapin

Anna Mae Chapin, 94, of Manila, died Monday, April 6, 2009, at Monette Manor Nursing Center in Monette. Born Nov. 17, 1914, at Hornersville, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Gilbert William "Gib" and Rosie Leah Dial Singleton, who died shortly after Anna's birth. Anna was a longtime resident of Northeast Arkansas and a graduate of Tyronza High School. She was the widow of Harry Chapin.

She owned and operated flower shops in Blytheville and Harrisburg before moving to St. Louis where she continued her career in the retail floral industry for several years before she and her late husband returned to Manila. Mrs. Chapin was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her stepmother who raised her, Bertha Gertrude Reynolds Singleton; a brother, Elmer Alstean "Bud" Singleton; two infant sisters; and a beloved nephew, William Dudley "Bill" Singleton.

Survivors include her sister, Olga Maxine Gleason of Atlanta, Ga. She also leaves some very special people in her life, Cleo "Sonny" Massey, Greg and Laura Rooks, Clora White, Fay Walsh, Gail Penix and several nieces and nephews.

Her family would like to recognize the staff of Monette Manor for their care and kindness.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday in Howard Funeral Chapel at Manila with Rev. Larry Deaton officiating. Burial was in the Manila Cemetery.

The family received visitors Friday morning from 11 a.m. until time of service.
