John Calhoun "JC" South

John Calhoun "JC" South, 64, of Manila died Jan. 5, 2009, at St. Bernards Hospital in Jonesboro. He was born Aug. 27, 1944, at Hillboro, Ala. He was a farmer and of the Pentecostal faith.

He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Nora and Harlo Newman; a sister, Margaret Newman; and a brother, Franklin Newman.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby South of Manila; daughters, Jeannie Lisk and Sara South, both of Manila; sons, John South and Rickey South, both of Manila; sisters, Peggy McLaughlin of Batesburg, S.C., Kathy Gilbert of Benton, Mildred Russell of West Memphis, and Minnie Cox of Blytheville; a brother, Bobby Newman of West Memphis; and eight grandchildren.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at Wilson Funeral Home in Osceola with Brother Lee Dunn officiating. Burial was in Louise Chapel in Bassett.
