Donald Howard Moore, Sr., 75, of Manila, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008. Born at Carvers Creek, N.C., he was the son of the late Aude and Mava Ledford Moore and had been a Manila resident since 2005. He was a 1951 graduate of Elizabeth Town High School in Elizabeth Town, N.C. and a 1955 graduate of Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn., where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. He was a retired human resource manager for several companies including Burlington Industries. He was a member of the Manila First Baptist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Gloria Weaver Moore, of the home; a son, Donald Howard Moore, Jr., of Fairfax, Vir.; two daughters, Cindy White, and her husband, Michael, of Manila and Suzanne Veach, and her husband, Rob, of Jonesboro; a brother, Edgar Moore of Sparta, N.C.; two sisters, Virginia Stines of Winton-Salem, N.C., and Ava Lee Kirksey of Dallas, N.C.; four grandchildren, Chad Baker, Brett Baker, Melanie Conrad and Jenenne Moore; three great-grandchildren, Kylie Baker, Kaden Baker and Madison Dawson.

The funeral was held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Howard Funeral Chapel in Manila with Rev. Ferrel Duffel officiating. Burial was in the Manila Cemetery. The family received visitors from 1 p.m. until service time at the chapel.

Serving as active pallbearers were Don Moore, Brett Baker, Chad Baker, Darryl Conrad, Gerald Bebout and Alan Donner.
