Delcie Geraldine Bassett

Delcie Gearldine Bassett, 92, of Jonesboro, formerly of Manila, died Friday, May 23, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Place in Jonesboro. Born at Half Moon, she was the daughter of the late Walter David and Grace Brooks Vastbinder and lived much of her life in the Manila area where she was a cook for Manila Public Schools. She moved to Jonesboro in 1966 where she and her late husband, Albert Bassett, operated Bassett's Grocery until their retirement in 1973. After her retirement she lived in Paragould for several years before returning to Jonesboro. She was a member of Cathedral Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Bassett, a grandchild and one infant son.

Survivors include three sons; Richard Bassett of Bono, James Bassett and Bob Bassett, both of Jonesboro; four daughters, Nita Roe of Paragould, Linda Peters of Portland, Ind., Shirley Davis of Leachville, Meredith Farris of Fulton, Miss.; a sister, Glen Delusi of Pocahontas; a half-sister, Sue Workman of Manila; 21 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were 10 a.m. Monday at the Cathedral Baptist Church in Jonesboro with Rev. Doug Welborn and Rev. Jerry Parker officiating. Burial was in New Friendship Cemetery near Paragould under the direction of Howard Funeral Service of Manila.

Grandsons and great-grandsons served as active and honorary pallbearers.
