Jonesboro

Johnny Turney, 64, of Jonesboro died Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. He as born in Manila on Dec. 21, 1943, to Roy Lomer Turney and Ruby Thompson Turney. He graduated from Valley View High School. He formerly owned and operated Rosehaven Retirement Home and formerly owned East Arkansas Insurance Agency. He was in the National Guard and loved playing golf, basketball and baseball. He was previously a basketball referee. He was of the Baptist belief.

He is survived by a son, Scott Turney of Atlanta; four brothers, Jim Turney, Joe Turney and Lomer Turney, all of Jonesboro, and Larry Turney of Enterprise, Ala.; and a sister, Helen Dodd of Colorado Springs, Colo.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Mike Turney, and a daughter, Heather Turney.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Roller-Farmers Union Chapel with Mitch Ford officiating. Burial was in McDaniel Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Paul Turney, Dr. Nathan Turney, Jim Vinson, Bob Hansen, Lomer Gene Turney, Melvin Robbins, Mike Bush, Jimmy Ward and Larry Worsham.
