James "Snooks" Martin, 71, of Manila, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born in Manila he was the son of the late James William and Sini White Sandusky Martin and had been a lifelong Manila resident. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a retired truck driver and a member of the Herman Davis American Legion Post 197 where he held several positions of leadership.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Marie Carter, three brothers, Marvin Martin, Earnest Martin and Turner Martin.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldean Martin of the Manila; two sons, Gary Lynn Martin of Berea, Ky., and Rick Dean Martin of Manila; a daughter, Connie Gail Crawford of Benton; two brothers, Eugene Martin of Monette and R.B. Martin of Manila; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Howard Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ferrel Duffell officiating. Burial was in the Manila Cemetery.
