Monette

Alan "Al" Alberda, 80, died Friday, August 31, 2007 at Monette Manor. He was born in Holland, Mich., to the late Peter and Grace Alberda. He and his family lived in the Monette area for over 50 years. He was a member of the Monette Assembly of God Church. He served his country in the Navy and U.S. Army for 21 years during World War II, Korea and Vietnam where he served two tours and was a member of the Monette American Legion. He was a retired truck driver for McFarlin Trucking.

Survivors are his wife, Beulah "Bea" Cullum Alberda of the home; two daughters, Linda Hanson and husband Robb of Jonesboro and Gena Alberda of Monette; two sons, Ricky Alberda and his wife Kathy of Powhatan and Don Alberda of Ripley, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Lenn Moore of Newport, Misty Alberda of Jonesboro, Robbyn Hanson of Jonesboro, Patricia Truitt of Powhattan; five great-grandchildren, Devin Hale of Jonesboro, McKenzie Wooten of Jonesboro, Jared Truitt, Meghan Truitt and Tyler Truitt all of Powhattan; three brothers, Stanley Alberda of Tucson, Ariz., Jim Alberda of Holland, Mich., and Pete Alberda of Zealand, Mich.; four sisters, Judy Sprik of Hamilton, Mich., Shirley Rhoda of Holland, Mich., Carol Clark of Allendale, Mich., and Barbara Rank of Dallas.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Alberda; a grandson, Alan Michael Alberda; a brother, Dale Alberda, and a sister, Thelma Heikover.

A celebration of his life was held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Gregg Funeral Home Chapel in Monette with Rev. Jerry Reed and Bro. Terry Miller officiating. Burial was in Monette Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.

Honored to serve as pallbearers were Robb Hanson, Dean Sparkman, Wayland McClelland, Ralph Hunter, Jerry Reed and Mike Parrish.
