Eula V. Hutton Thieme, last surviving child of one of the pioneer families of Manila, died Monday, May 28, 2007, at Great River Medical Center in Blytheville. She was born in Manila Sept. 6, 1917, to J.M. and Mary Jane Ashabranner Hutton. Mr. Hutton was an early settler of Manila whose business interests included land, timber, hardware, cotton ginning and farming. She lived her entire life at Manila and was a lifelong member of the Manila First United Methodist Church and UMW, being active in both until failing health.

Mrs. Thieme was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 51 years, Mike Thieme; an infant daughter, Sue Ellen; and a son-in-law, Jimmy Ray Brock. She was also preceded in death by four sisters and brothers-in-law, Lissie and Frank Nowlin, Hettie and Clyde Milligan, Bessie and Herman Alston and Arline and Dr. Howard Robinson; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Jewel Hutton, Edgar and Olga Hutton and former Arkansas State Representative Woodrow and Thelma Hutton.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Jane Brock, of Memphis; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Romona Thieme of Manila; two grandchildren, Amanda Brock of Memphis and Rachel Thieme of Manila; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held at the First United Methodist Church in Manila at 2 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Wade Shownes officiating.

Burial was in Manila Cemetery under the direction of Howard Funeral Service of Manila.

Pallbearers were Tommy Towles, Michael White, Wesley Sandusky, Phillip Toombs, Ray Benson and Dennis Farmer.
