Providence

Russell Franklin Merriman, Sr., 70, of Providence, died Jan. 23, 2007. He was born in Peel, Ark., June 13, 1936, to the late, Willis and Melinda Parzee (Smothers) Merriman. He worked at Polar Stainless for 12 years. He then worked as a mechanic. He loved working with his horses, going hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda Merriman; son, Russell Merriman, Jr., and wife Kim of Judsonia; two daughters; Wanda Woodard, and husband Ray of Bald Knob, and Rosemary Mahoney of Judsonia; three brothers, Joe Merriman of Floyd, Guy Merriman of Gregory and Silas Merriman of Judsonia; two sisters, Ermilee Jackson of Leachville and Joyce Jackson of Manila; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mary Alice Layton and infant Totsy Faye Merriman; brother, George Merriman, and nephew, Jimmy Merriman.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 27 at Dripping Springs Assembly of God Church. Interment was at Providence Cemetery under the direction of Powell Funeral Home, Bald Knob-Judsonia.
