Sikeston, Mo.

Cecil Adams, 77, of Sikeston, Mo., died Monday, Nov. 27, 2006, in Missouri Delta Medical Center at Sikeston. He was born April 2, 1929, at Lake City to the late William H. and Sudie D. Turner Adams. He was the founder of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church at Sikeston and had served as pastor for 16 years at Matthews Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Vernell Savage of the home. They married on Oct. 21, 1950, at Bay.

Other survivors include two sons, Eugene Adams of Sikeston and David Adams of Dexter, Mo.; daughter, Marsha Davis of Sikeston; a brother and two sisters, George Adams of St. Louis, Wilma Hamilton of Bay and Opal Shaw of Vilonia; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister and a great-granddaughter.

The funeral was held at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel at 10 a.m. Thursday with Jeff Polk and Chris Polk of Matthews officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sikeston.

Pallbearers were Jason Davis, Jody Adams, Lonnie Polk, Brian Adams, Cherik Griffin and Tim Butler. Honorary pallbearers were Danny Staggs, Ray McCoy, Howard Atwell and Kenneth Duvall.
