James Ernest Hammett - Jonesboro

James Ernest Hammett, 52, of Jonesboro, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, near Schugtown. Born at Marked Tree, he spent most of his life in Jonesboro. He was a truck driver, an Army veteran and of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Hammett of the home; two daughters, Elizabeth Hammett of the home and Jamie Hammett of Jonesboro; his mother, Virginia Veal of Kokomo, Ind.; five sisters, Thurline Rebelle of Bells, Tenn., Gwen Wilson of Dayton, Ohio, Wanda Patton of Bay, Loudin Moon of Lake City and Shirley Hostetler of Kikomo; three brothers, Roger Hammett of Dallas, Dennis Hammett of Newport and Mike Hammett of Brighton, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thurell Hammett, a brother and a sister.

The funeral was held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro, with Brad Higgins officiating. Burial was in the Jonesboro Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Randy Hammett, Keith Hammett, Ronnie Hammett, David Hammett, Dennis Hammett and Jon Tallent.
