Evelyn Mae Stephens Lackey - Monette

Evelyn Mae Stephens Lackey, 89, of Monette, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at St. Bernards Medical Center. She was a homemaker, member of Monette First Baptist Church, member of Monette Senior Citizens, and recognized Volunteer Senior Citizen of the Year for the State of Arkansas Region 12.

She is survived by two sons, Obine Lackey of Caruthersville, Mo., and Tommy Lackey of Jonesboro; two daughters, Jerrie Stacy of Jonesboro and Virginia Watkins of Cash; six sisters, Joy Davis of Webster Grove, Mo., Pearl Howell of Paragould, Billie Shook of Paragould, Maxine Hinson of Jonesboro, Joan Roush of Columbia, Ill., and Kay Stephens of Melbourne; two brothers, Elmo Stephens of Cuba, Mo., and Clifford Stephens of Arnold, Mo.; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Thomas and Hattie Stephens, and her husband, Ponder Lackey.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Monette First Baptist Church with Rev. Captain Lovell and Rev. William Piercy officiating. A graveside was held at 2 p.m. at Milligan Campground Cemetery at Strawberry. Gregg Funeral Home of Monette was in charge of the arrangements.

Active pallbearers were Morris Watkins, Eric Watkins, Andy Watkins, Billy Stacy, Matthew Wimberly, Jared DeGood, Tony Lackey, Steve Hinson, Don Rouse, and Jay Gore.

Granddaughters and great-granddaughters served as honorary pallbearers.
