Leon Owen Murphree - Manila

Leon Owen Murphree, 75 of Manila, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, in Jonesboro.

He was born Aug. 13, 1929, in Pontotoc, Miss., the son of C.W. and Cleo Lancaster Murphree. He was employed as a farmer and an electrician and was a member of the Westside Baptist Church of God in Manila.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Beal Murphree, of the home; two daughters, Judy Young of Rudy and Debbie Shirley of Monette; two sons, Allen Murphree of Tahlequah, Okla., and Rodger Murphree of Fayetteville; two sisters, Mattie Jean Foster of Mississippi and Cornia Hughes of Bruce, Miss.; a brother, James Murphree of Pocahontas; 17 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Etal Murphree, and a brother, William Murphree.

The funeral was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Westside Church of God in Manila with Rev. Brian Johnson and Rev. Jim Cantrell officiating. Burial was in the Manila Cemetery under the direction of Cobb Funeral Home of Blytheville.
