George Edward Anthony - Pottsboro, Texas

Retired MSGT George Edward Anthony, 74, died April 11, 2004.

Anthony was born Sept. 4, 1929, in Atkins, to George Allen and Augusta Maine (Younger) Anthony. He grew up in Leachville learning to pick cotton at an early age and played basketball as well as graduated from Leachville High School. After high school, he enlisted in the armed services. Mr. Anthony served his country in the United States Air Force from which he retired in 1969 after having served during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. After retirement, he was asked and appointed by President Jimmy Carter to be the Director of Operations of the Cuban-Haitian Refugee Task Force Commission in Key West, Fla., through the Department of State in 1980. With his health declining in 1998, he moved form Miami, Fla., to Pottsboro, Texas, to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren.

He is survived by his long-time friend and sister-in-law, Marilyn Anthony of Greenbrier, a son, Keith Anthony, and wife, Kim, and their children, Ryan and Kayli of Spring, Texas; daughter, Julie Debard, and husband, Greg, and their children, Diana, Katie, and Jackie of Pottsboro, Texas; and son, Craig Anthony, of Pottsboro, Texas.

Full military services were held at noon Thursday, April 15, at Arkansas State Veteran's Cemetery in North Little Rock.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home in Denison, Texas.
