Clarence Junior Smith - Manila

Clarence Junior Smith, 79, of Manila, died Thursday, Jan. 22,2004, at his home. Born at Leachville, he was the son of the late Ted C. and Violet Tanner Smith and had been a Manila resident for the past 56 years. He was a carpenter and constructed many fine homes in the Manila and Jonesboro areas. He was of the Baptist faith and was a Navy veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bernice Murphy Smith of the home; a son, Larry Smith of Hornersville; two daughters, Joyce Sickels and Cheryl Edgin, both of Manila, and a nice raised in the home, Carolyn Luoma of Manila; a sister, Lorene Hodge of Slidell, La.; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, J.L. Potter and Dallas Smith, his sisters, Charlcie Anthony and Mary Lou Ridge and his great-grandson, Matthew Christian Iliff.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Howard Funeral service Chapel in Manila with Rev. Rex Howell officiating. Burial was sin Manila Cemetery.
