Nathanael Webster "Nate" Varner - Greers Ferry

Nathanael Webster "Nate" Varner, 73, of Greers Ferry died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at Greers Ferry. He was born in Lake City and moved to Greers Ferry six years ago.

He was an electrician with General Motors, a Skilled Trades representative at the Chevrolet truck plant of Local 598, a Shriner, a member of the Monette Masonic Lodge 558, a U.S. Army Medical Corps veteran of World War II, and a member of the Okeechobee Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Varner, of the home; two daughters, Brenda McClanahan of Greers Ferry and Beverly Cornell of Columbiaville, Mich.; two sons, Michael Varner of Flint, Mich., and Scott Varner of Conway; two sisters, Emma Jean Kerst of Greers Ferry and Rosa Lee Tallent of Black Oak; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. today (Tuesday) in the Emerson Funeral Home Chapel in Lake City with Brother Harold Ray and Brother Al Kerst officiating. Burial will follow in the Monette Cemetery under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home of Lake City.

Active pallbearers will include Timothy Cornell, Jon Cornell, and members of the Monette Masonic Lodge 558.

Honorary pallbearers will include Paul Kerst, John Kerst, Robert Harrell, John Tallent, James Tallent, Norman Varner and Lonnie Wrinkle.
