Doris "Louise" Simpson 73, of Jacksonville, formerly of Manila, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002. She was born on July 15, 1928, to Otis and Lucille (Garrett) May at Little River.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Morris Simpson, Jr.; a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Robin Simpson; four grandchildren, Whitney, Travis, Austin and Casey Simpson, all of Jacksonville; a brother, Calvin May of Manila, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Simpson began her Christian life at a small church in Little River and moved on to the Blackwater Baptist Church in Manila after she married in 1962. Later, in 1986, she and her family moved to town and attended Westside Baptist Church in Manila. After moving to the Little Rock area in 1999 to be near her grandchildren, she and her husband moved to Indianhead Lake Baptist Church in Sherwood, where she remained until her death.

Mrs. Simpson worked in a dress factory until her only child was born. She later began working as a teacher's aide in the Manila School System. After working with the Manila School District for 21 years, she retired with her husband.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Chapel with Brother Warren Watkins officiating. Interment was at Rest Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
