Kenneth Mattheus - Manila

Kenneth Mattheus, 76, of Manila died Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, at the Veterans Hospital in Little Rock. Born at Manila, he was the son of the late Lon and Oscie Baker Mattheus and the grandson of early Manila settlers, Vester and Effie Guymon Baker. He was a former construction worker and was a disabled Navy veteran of World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Wayne Mattheus, and a sister, Wilda Langley.

Survivors include his wife, Dora Gaye Ashabranner Mattheus of the home; a daughter, Janiece Flannigan of Manila; three brothers, Donald Mattheus of Manila, Bobby Mattheus of Land O' Lakes, Fla., and Dennis Mattheus of Paragould; two sisters, Jean Medlock of Indianapolis and Joyce Webb of Tupelo, Miss.; four grandchildren, Shannon Hill, Richie Pierce, Michelle Barks and Tiffany Flannigan; and a great-grandson, Matthew Hill.

Services were 10 a.m. Monday at Howard Funeral Service chapel in Manila, Rev. Jimmy Vinson and Rev. Mike Winberry officiating. Burial was in Manila Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Dennis Farmer, Jimmy Adams, Jerry Hitchcock, Sonny Ashley, Bobby Tucker and R.A. Davidson.

Honorary pallbearers included Kenneth McWhirter, Jack Wagner, Bud Fowler and members of Herman Davis American Legion Post.
