Lucille Byrd - Helena

Lucille Byrd, 91, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, at Crestpark Retirement Inn in Helena. She was born in Republican, Ark., on Feb. 8, 1910. From Republican, she moved to Leachville where she spent 25 years before moving to Elaine and finally retiring at Moon Lake, Miss.

She is survived by two brothers, Elmus Duncan and Melvin Duncan, both of West Monroe, La.; two daughters, Bobbye Nuse of Brownwood, Texas, and Meltha Harvey of Fort Smith; two sons, Darrel Byrd and James Byrd, both of Dundee, Miss.; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild and numerous nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Byrd; a son, Donnie Bruce Byrd; two sisters, Alice Garrison and Lula Scott; and a brother, Woodrow Duncan.

The funeral was held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, in the Roller-Citizens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Anderson officiating.

A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Leachville Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Chris Woodyard, Phillip Gregory, Alan Gann, Justin Morris, Kyle Morris, Hunter Byrd, Bubba Morris, Woody Brown, Lee Graves and Oby Easley.

The family asked that anyone wanting to leave a lasting memorial consider the American Cancer Society.
