William Lee Barnes - Monette

William Lee Barnes, 83, of Monette, died Saturday, June 30, 2001, at his residence. He was a retired farmer, member of the American Legion and VFW, and had lived in Monette a lifetime. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Barnes of the home; a daughter, Jackie Barnes Anderson of Monette; two sons, Roy Lynn Barnes of Aviano, Italy, and Bill Mack Barnes of the home; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jenny Lee Barnes; his parents, Lee and May Barnes; three brothers, John Tom, Charlie, and Foch "Dub" Barnes.

A graveside was held at 7 p.m. Tuesday a Macey Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Reed and Jimmy Blankenship officiating.

Active pallbearers were Wendell Gadberry, Ricky Williams, Gordon Miller, Jim Fraser, Jerry Gardner, Renny James, Jack Gathright and Lloyd Carmichael.

The family requests anyone wishing to leave a lasting memorial to consider the Monette American Legion or the VFW of Monette or the Kohn Library in Monette.
