Thelma Newsom - Harrison

Thelma E. Newsom, 88, of Harrison, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Hillcrest Home in Harrison. Born at Independence County, she had lived at Harrison for seven years formerly of Leachville and Jonesboro. She was Baptist and a homemaker.

She is survived by three daughters, Donna Sue Butler of Harrison, Jean Rutherford of Jonesboro and Lisa Henry of Aubry, Texas; three sisters, Vena Dawson of Searcy, Louella Cornish of Michigan and Beatrice Neely of Leachville; a brother, Howerton Milligan of Louisiana; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ruffin Newsom, April 27, 1958, a son, Lindy Newsom, two brothers, and a great-great-granddaughter.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gregg Funeral Home Chapel in Monette with Rev. James Lewis officiating. Burial was in the Monette Cemetery with Gregg Funeral Home of Monette in charge.

Pallbearers were Timothy Butler, Daniel Butler, Blake Butler, Jeff Rutherford, John Rutherford and Eric Finch.
