Roy Glenn Harrell, Sr., a good and faithful servant, passed from this life Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, at age 79 in St. Louis, Mo. He was the beloved husband for 50 years of Kate Handley Harrell, beloved father of R. Glenn (Darla) Harrell, Jr. of Monette and grandfather of Emily and Cody Harrell. He was the dear brother of Joe (Eveline) Harrell, Ione (Jodie) Brown and David (Verna Lou) Harrell and the late Jack Harrell and Martha Jane Hout, dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and dear friend to many.

Roy Glenn was also preceded in death by his parents, David Roy and Minnie Pitts Harrell, of the Macey Community north of Monette. His Harrell ancestors were from one of the earliest Northeast Arkansas pioneer families, with seven generations of direct descendants having lived or currently living on Buffalo Island.

Roy Glenn was a 50 year active member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in St. Louis, Mo., a 50 year member of the Monette Masonic Lodge #558, long-time member of the Scottish Rite, Moolah Shrine and the Mehlville Optimist Club.

Family and friends gathered to celebrate Roy Glenn's life on Wednesday, Dec. 21, for a 7 p.m. memorial service at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 2761 Telegraph Rd., in St. Louis, and was followed by a reception. Arrangements were by John L. Ziegenhein and Sons.

A graveside Masonic service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 23, at Macey Cemetery, under the direction of Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott.

Roy Glenn was a lifelong educator and retired after 25 years as principal at Bierbaum Elementary School in the Mehlville School District. He graduated from Childress High School north of Monette in 1949 and went on to serve as teacher and high school principal. He was an active member of the CHS Reunion Committee and served as master of ceremonies of several school reunion programs.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Roy Glenn's church or the Shriners Hospital for Children would be appreciated.
