Osceola

Mrs. Mary Lorene Day, 87, of Osceola, Ark., died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at her home. Born June 22, 1924, at Hillsboro, Ala., she was the daughter of the late James and Mira Turner Ragan and had been a long-time area resident. Mrs. Day attended New Life Ministries Church in Bassett, Ark., and loved spending time with her family. Mrs. Day enjoyed cooking and playing her mandolin. Her family would like her to be remembered as being very loving and compassionate and the heart of the home.

She is survived by two sons, Robert Day of Manila, Ark., and Randy Day of Pocahontas, Ark.; five daughters, Verlene Bentley of St. Louis, Mo., Janie Weathers of Keiser, Ark., Therese Day of Manila, Gwen Sellars of Osceola, and Jennie Watlington of Memphis, Tenn. Mrs. Day also leaves 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Day was preceded in death by her husband, Samson Day; one daughter, Frances Hendrixson; one son, Sammy Day; and a grandson, Gabriel Joseph Day.

Funeral services were 3 p.m. Sunday, August 28, at New Life Ministries Church in Bassett, with Pastor Edward L. James officiating. Interment was in the Louise Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Faith Funeral Service of Manila.
