Hazel Smith, 87, of Monette passed away Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at Point Lookout Assisted Care Facility in Hollister, Mo. She was born June 19, 1923, in Monette to the late Harve and Niecy Cornish and lived most of her life there. She was the widow of Quention Smith and a member of the Mount Pleasant General Baptist Church and the Eastern Star. She retired from American Greetings in Osceola after 25 years. Mrs. Smith enjoyed canning and gardening, specially roses and loved to read.

She leaves behind a son; Larry Smith (Betty) of Leachville; two grandchildren, Terrie Selby (Terry) of Valley View and Tracy Rose (David) of Leachville; a sister, Myrtle Smith of Manila; four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur Cornish, Rufus Cornish and Claude Cornish.

A celebration of her life was held Thursday, Dec. 23, at 10 a.m. at the Gregg Funeral Home in Monette with Rev. Bobby Heath officiating. Burial was in the Monette Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation was Wednesday, Dec. 22, from 6-8 p.m. at the Gregg Funeral Home in Monette.

Honored to serve as pallbearers were David Rose, Dillon Rose, John Eric Hawkins, John Boyd, Grant Galyean and Adam Smith and honorary pallbearers were Clarence Cornish and Leroy Whited.
