Iva Mae Arant, 76, of Needville, Texas, formerly of Monette, died Monday, March 2, 2009, at M.D. Anderson Medical Center in Houston. She was born Nov. 5, 1932, in Willow, Okla., to the late Jesse and Carrie Adkins. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Stevens of Pocahontas and Diane Duvall of the home; two sons, Jim Arant of Richmond, Texas and Jeremy Arant of Seattle, Wash.; five grandchildren, Chris Duvall, Tim Duvall, Torrey Stevens, Jennifer Sullivan and Holly Causer; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Arant; a son, Wayne Arant; two sisters, Geneva Smothers and Ruby Pannells; and a brother, Cecil Adkins.

A celebration of her life was held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 9, 2009, at Gregg Funeral Home Chapel in Monette with Rev. Mike Taber officiating. Burial was in Monette Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dennis Cobb, Bill Craig, Aaron Arant, Larry Pannells, Kevin Guiltner and Jesse Sutton and as honorary pallbearers, Tommy Pannells, Rocky Qualls, Jerry Reed and Jerry Hunt.
