Dorothy Annis Robinson

Dorothy Annis Robinson died Thursday, April 17, 2008, at Baptist Hospital in Miami, Fla. She was the only child of the late Dr. A.E. Robinson and the late Myrtle Annis Robinson of Leachville. She graduated with honors from Leachville High School. Her senior year she and her teammate won the District and State Debate contest. She also made national news when she became the first civilian to take the antibiotic, penicillin.

Robinson graduated from Stephens College, Columbia, Mo., with an ABA Degree and Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla., cum laude with a BA Degree. At Rollins College, she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority, president of the Interracial Club, president of the International Club, and a member of the debate team.

She was a world traveler. By the time she was 16, she had already traveled in then, all 48 states. She spent much time in Mexico and Canada. She also went to Europe many times and to Africa on a safari. She took many trips to the Caribbean Islands and to Central and South America through the Panama Canal. Many summers she would spend traveling the USA by car.

She has no surviving family members but leaves many friends. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Leachville, The Marathon Yacht Club in Marathon, Fla., where she made her home, and a former member of the Sombrero Country Club in Marathon.

She was laid to rest in The Mausoleum at Forrest Lawn Cemetery in Memphis, Tenn. Her parents, Dr. and Mrs. A.E. Robinson are also buried at this cemetery.
