Funeral services for James Fredrick (Fred) Herndon, 70, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2007, in the chapel of Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home with Rev. Don Thrasher officiating. Burial was in New Salem Cemetery at Mason Hall in Obion County, Tenn.

Mr. Herndon, a resident of Jackson, Tenn., since 1968, died Friday, May 11, 2007, in Jackson-Madison County Hospital. He was born in Memphis, the son of Regina Irene Smith Herndon and the late Willis H. Herndon. He grew up in Leachville graduating High School there and later graduating from Arkansas State College in Jonesboro. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Germany for a number of years. Following his military service, he began work in Nashville in the casket industry and served as a sales representative in this area for 42 years. He was a member of Northside United Methodist Church and was very active in hunting and fishing activities.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Willis Merideth Herndon.

He is survived by his wife, Helga Reuter Herndon, to whom he was married in 1961; two sons, James Patrick Herndon and wife, Denisha, of Enville, Tenn., and Michael Edward Herndon and Susan Taylor of Haywood County; his mother, Regina Smith Herndon of Linden, Tenn., and his grandson, James Parker Herndon of Enville; a sister-in-law, Ilze Trojok and a brother-in-law, Kraft Reuter, both of Germany.
