Blytheville

Rebecca Mitchell, 107, longtime resident of Blytheville, died Saturday, March 17, 2007, at Monette Manor Nursing Home in Monette. She was born Feb. 8, 1900, at Blytheville, the daughter of Haskins and Antonia Carney Thompson. She married Roy Mitchell on Dec. 24, 1916, and seven children were born to their marriage. She was a Gold Star mother during World War II and a longtime member of the Church of the Nazarene. Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell were involved in farming for several years and later operated a grocery store in the Promised Land Community.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Roy Eugene Mitchell; two sisters, Katie Thompson and Lucy Thompson; a brother, Harold C. Thompson; and two grandsons, Johnny Bruce West and Gary Mitchell.

Mrs. Mitchell is survived by two daughters, Mildred Bruschi, and husband, Tony, of Ringgold, Ga., and Rebecca Elizabeth West Warren, and husband, Gerald, of the Promised Land Community; four sons, Earl Dallas Mitchell, and wife, Dorothy of Marmaduke, John Haskin Mitchell, and wife, Annabell of Blytheville, Thomas Julian Mitchell, and wife, Geraldine of Burdette, and Kenneth Thompson Mitchell, and wife, Charlotte of Pittsfield, Ill., 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held at 10:30 a.m. March 20 in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel in Blytheville with Rev. Ken Stallings and Rev. James Betts officiating. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery.
