William Arvle Starnes - Caraway

William Arvle Starnes, 87, of Caraway, died Saturday, April 8, 2006, at NEA Medical Center. Born in Gibson, Mo., he had been a resident of Caraway for the past 60 years and was a retired farmer. He was a member of Caraway First Baptist Church, the Caraway Masonic Lodge No. 773 and Scottish Rites. He was U.S. Army Veteran having served in World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Starnes of the home; a son, John Starnes, and his wife, Kathy, of Jonesboro; granddaughters, Shawna Starnes, Tysha Starnes and Kyla Starnes; great-grandson, Wesley Tompkins; sisters, Barbara Ellis of St. Louis and Flora Pollard of Kenai, Alaska; and brother, Burl Starnes of Waterford, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee and Fannie Jane Kirk Starnes; four brothers, and three sisters.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Caraway First Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Stevens officiating. Burial was in Caraway Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Bobby Barker, Everett Hollis Jr., Don Kelton, Bill Riley, Charles Smith and Joe Smith.

Honorary pallbearers were Oscar Kee, Noble Dunkerson, Robert Anderson, Loyd Wycoff, Arvel Wagner, C.R. Brown, Paul Martin, Harold Ray, Larry Barrett, Robert Adcock and Robert Banks.
