Riley "Son" Martin - Beech Grove

Riley "Son" Martin, 87, died Sunday, March 5, 2006, in Poplar Bluff, Mo. Born in Red Onion, Son was a veteran of World War II and a retired logger and farmer. He spent the majority of his life in the Stanford community.

He is survived by his wife, Christna, of 58 years; three sons, James, and his wife, Carol, of Paragould, Charles of Beech Grove, and Windell and his wife, Nell, of Pocahontas; four grandsons, Jeff and his wife, Jamie, of Paragould, Steve of Paragould, Samuel and his wife, Kasey, of Jonesboro, and Derek of Pocahontas; a great-grandson, Justin of Paragould; a brother, Gene Martin of Paragould; a sister, Lou Cole of Arbyrd; and a step-sister, Martha Stevens.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Martin; stepmother, Jettie Martin; brothers, R.A. and Wiley Martin; sisters, Velza Horne of Flint, Mich., and Jesse Summers of Delaplaine; and an infant son.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Heath Colonial Chapel with L.R. Smith and Emmett Smith III officiating. Burial was in Mountain Home Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jeff Martin, Steve Martin, Samuel Martin, Derek Martin, Larry Martin and Terry Cole.

Honorary pallbearers were Wayne Horne, Jim Martin, Monte Martin, Gary Martin and George Cole.
