Eunitha Steele Hout - Monette

Eunitha Steele Hout, 89, of Monette died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2005, at her home. She was a member of the Monette United Methodist Church and she held undergraduate and graduate degrees in education from Arkansas State University.

Mrs. Hout was devoted to education and agriculture. As principal at Monette Elementary School, a position from which she retired in 1976, she led the way in implementing the area's first student breakfast program, which became a model for other school districts. In 2000, her grandchildren honored her by establishing an Arkansas State University Foundation Scholarship to assist deserving students from Buffalo Island Central High School majoring in teacher education. She was a member of the Arkansas Education Association, National Education Association and ASU Alumni Association. She was a life-member of Alpha Delta Kappa.

Her aspiration in life was to encourage everyone she taught or touched to attain their highest potential.

Her husband, Neal Hout; a son, Joe Lynn Hout, and two additional sons who died at birth; three brothers, Randolph, J.D. and John Steele; and her parents, R.Q. and Sophronia Lunsford Steele, preceded her in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Watkins of Monette and Nealedene Hoch of Clermont, Fla.; five grandchildren, Lisa Hout Holland of Imboden, Julie Hout Brown of Tyler, Texas, Steve Watkins of Jonesboro, Randy Honey of Monette and Jeffrey Honey of Clermont, Fla.; eight great-grandchildren, Sarah and Amanda Holland of Imboden, Christopher Honey of Monette, Ashley and William Honey of Clermont, Florida and Adam, Emma and Sophie Watkins of Jonesboro; two sisters, Eloise Culyer of New Hartford, N.Y. and Nadine Murphy of Rogers; a daughter-in-law, Jimmie Lou Hout Wallace, and a host of nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life was held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Monette United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Reed officiating. Burial will followed at Macey Cemetery. Honored to serve as pallbearers were her grandsons and grandsons-in law.
