Dr. M.C. Milligan

Dr. M. C. Milligan was born in Manila on April 25 1932 to Clyde Milligan and Hettie Hutton Milligan. He lived in Manila until age 18 graduating high school there in 1951. He then went to The University of Arkansas Fayetteville where he majored in chemistry and attending that institution until July 1954 at which time he entered The University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis. In June 1953 he married Elva June Waddell. He graduated from the University of Tennessee Medical School in March 1957 with honors after being inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society then entered the United States Army where he was assigned to Tripler Army Hospital, Honolulu, Hawaii. There he did a one year rotating medical internship. After finishing his internship at Tripler he was assigned to the Tripler Orthopedic Surgery Department as a duty officer where he served until leaving the Army in June of 1961. He settled in Campbell, Mo., where he practiced medicine until entering a residency in radiology at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis in July 1962. After finishing his residency, he became an instructor in the Department of Radiology at The University of Arkansas School of Medicine in Little Rock in July 1965. He was promoted to assistant professor of radiology in July 1966 then in July 1967 he joined the staff of the Radiology Department at JRMC where he practiced until his retirement.

After retirement he became interested in wildlife photography becoming accomplished enough to have numerous photographs published in national publications including Nature Photographer Magazine and Natural History Magazine, with several photography related articles published in Nature Photographer Magazine.

Dr. Milligan is survived by his wife, Elva June Waddell Milligan; three children, Monte Brent Milligan of Pine Bluff, Dr. Michael L. Milligan of Hot Springs and Leanna Milligan Johnson of Dickson, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Lauren Johnson and Michael Johnson of Dickson, Tenn., and Jay Sayers of Austin, Texas.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, a son, Patrick W. Milligan, and two sisters, Betty Milligan Huitt of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Patsy Milligan Shownes of Paragould.

Dr. Milligan was a member of the American College of Radiology, American Medical Association, The Arkansas Medical Society, Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and is a founding member of The North American Nature Photography Association.

Dr Milligan died as a result of complications associated with Myelodysplastic Syndrome otherwise known as bone marrow failure.

A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date. Any memorials should be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
