William Andrew Lomax, Jr. - Arbyrd

William Andrew Lomax, Jr., son of the late William Andrew Lomax, Sr. and Effie Ellen Hendrixson Lomax, was born April 25, 1924, in Arbyrd, Mo., and died Oct. 1, 2005, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro at the age of 81. He was married to Helen Ridings on Nov. 5, 1943 in Piggott. He was a member of Arbyrd Baptist Church. He was a member of the Arbyrd and Southland School Boards, serving as president for several years, and of the Dunklin County School Board. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II. He was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Lomax of Jonesboro; a son, Kenny Lomax of Jonesboro; a brother, Jim Lomax of Blytheville; five sisters, Orene Perez of Leachville, Sydney Wilson of Holcomb, Mo., Millie Dunahaw of Corcoran, Calif., Oma McWherter of Piggott, and Betty Smith of Davidson, Mich.; two grandchildren, Kyle Lomax of Jonesboro and Kendra Lomax of Jonesboro; and two great-grandchildren, Katie Lomax and Kaysen Lomax.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, J.C. Lomax, Orville Lomax, and Charles Lomax; three sisters, Myrtle Burke, Thelma Lomax, and Nellie Lomax.

The funeral was held at the Arbyrd Baptist Church at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Burial was in Memorial Gardens in Kennett.

Pallbearers were Derek Elder, Justin Elder, Jarrod Elder, Neal Smith.

Honorary pallbearers were Weldon Huggins, Danny Scott, Jack Parker, Mike Faulkner and Kenneth Sikes.
