Curtis C. Duncan
Mr. Curtis C. Duncan, 83, of Dell, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005,
at the Great River Medical Center in Blytheville. Born March 26,
1922, in Spruce Pine, Ala., to Maxie Elmo and Flossie Drucella
Garrett Duncan, he had been an area resident for most of his life and
was a member of the Dell First United Methodist Church. He was a
professional photographer and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving his
country during World War II. He graduated in August 1950 with a
Bachelor of Science, with a business major in accounting, from
Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.
While in college, he met his future wife, Emma Irene Magers, and
they were married on June 27, 1947, in Dell. After college, the
couple moved to Dell where Mr. Duncan worked at Farmers Gin Co. of
Dell Inc., first as a weigher and later as manager for more than 15
years. During his time as manager, he also farmed 300 acres. He left
the cotton gin in 1972 and opened a photography studio that he
operated for 14 years.
Mr. Duncan was a member of the Photographic Society of America
and helped organize the Blytheville Camera Club, the Lincoln (Neb.)
Camera Club and the Jonesboro Camera Club. He was also involved in
preserving old photographs and historic buildings and was a member of
the Mississippi County Historical and Genealogical Society in
Osceola. He was also the recipient of many, many photography awards
and had his work on exhibit throughout the region.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife
of 57 years, Emma Irene Magers Duncan; his brother, Lloyd Kenneth
Duncan; and his sisters, Jeanette Crawford and Rebecca Mae Granger.
Mr. Duncan leaves his children, Drucella "Dru" Duncan King of
Williamsburg, Va., and Richard Curtis Duncan of Oxnard, Calif.; and
His grandchildren, Curtis Nathanael Duncan and Joseph Shannon
Duncan, both of Conway.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in
the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel in Blytheville. The Rev. Marilyn Webb
will officiate, and burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the
funeral home.
