Gary Dean Fortson, Sr., 54, of Harrisburg died Sunday, July 3, 2005, at Jonesboro. Born in Harrisburg, he served as an Army Airborne Ranger during the Vietnam War, was a farmer and of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include his wife, Rita Jenkins Fortson of Harrisburg; a son, Gary Dean Fortson, Jr., of Lake City; a daughter, Rebekah Lynn Fortson of Harrisburg; his parents, D.W. and Kay Prince Fortson of Pangburn; four brothers, Darrel Fortson of Conway, Melburne Fortson of Fayetteville, Rick Crisel of Flint, Mich., and Johnny Crisel of Mountain View; four sisters, Michelle Wilson of Conway, Sharon Shoats and Linda Inman, both of Flint, and Tracy Holden of Baltimore; and seven grandchildren, Adam Fortson, Evan Fortson, Caillou Miller, Collin Eaton, Britney Fortson, Hannah Fisher and Bailey Fisher.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Sherry Horst.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Jackson's Harrisburg Funeral Home with Rev. John Honeycutt officiating. Burial was in Bolivar Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Joey Jenkins, Alvin Jenkins, Terry Jenkins, Steve Jenkins, Gary Fortson, Jr., Ben Jenkins, Tommy Smith, Donald Mahan and Marty Horst.

Honorary pallbearer was Kevin Newberry.
