Gerald F. "Boots" Pitts, 84, of Monette, died June 20, 2005, at St. Bernard's Medical center. He was a retired farmer and Baptist. He was a veteran of World War II Army Air Corp and a member of Monette Masonic Lodge 558, and American Legion Post 136. He was the founder of the Buffalo Island Museum in Monette.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Pitts, of the home; three sister, Helen Barnes of Helena, Christine Lawson of Jonesboro and Virginia Stewart of Monette; and a daughter, Kay Wallace, of Monette; two grandchildren, Keith Wallace and Karrye Boyd, and three great-grandchildren, Calvin Wallace, Carter Wallace and Derrick Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Hosea and Amie Pitts, and a brother, and a half brother.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Monette First Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Reed officiating. Burial was in the Monette Cemetery under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.

Active pallbearers were Dennis Gathright, Justin Gathright, Chub Qualls, Claud Earl Barnett, Bob Hurst and Bob Wilborn.

The family requests anyone wishing to leave a lasting memorial consider the Buffalo Island Museum.
