Hershel Franklin Patton - Morrison, Ill.

Hershel Franklin Patton, 57, of Morrison, Ill., formerly of Leachville, died Sunday, April 24, 2005, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, Ill. Born at Leachville, he had been a resident of Morrison for the past 30 years. He was a graduate of Leachville High School and was a member of New Providence Baptist Church. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War having received the Purple Heart during his tour of duty. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was retired assistant police chief at Morrison and also a former deputy sheriff of Whiteside County in Illinois. Mr. Patton was a member of the Dunlap Masonic Lodge, a Shriner and a member of the American Wood Carvers Association.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Kemper Patton of Morrison; a son, William Patton of Hiram, Ga.; a daughter, Cindy Volckmann of Hiram; his mother, Frances Myracle Patton of Leachville; a brother, William Patton of Versailles, Mo.; two sisters, Alice Hodges of Leachville and Linda Drury of Tupelo, Miss.; a granddaughter, Alexis Brooke Volckmann of Hirman.

He was preceded in death by his father, Vester Hershel Patton, and his brother, Henry Patton.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at New Providence Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Leachville Cemetery under the direction of Howard Funeral Service of Leachville. The family will receive visitors from 6-8:30 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will include Aven Hodges, Jackie Drury, Jeff Drury, David Harper, Rick Kemper, Larry Davison, Richard Meadows and Ray Kemper.
