Lyman A. "L.A." Brooks - Van Buren

Lyman A. "L.A." Brooks, 80, of Van Buren, formerly of Leachville died Friday, April 22, 2005, at his residence. Born at Portageville, Mo., he was the son of the late Walter J. and Mary Ramsey Brooks and had been a longtime Leachville area resident before making his home in van Buren. He was a cotton ginner and builder having worked with several ginning operations in Northeast Arkansas. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, a member of the VFW, the Masonic Lodge, the American Legion and was of the protestant faith.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Fortson Brooks of the home; five daughters, Tina McCoy of Leachville, Mary Lewis of Van Buren, Terrie Broyles of Barling, Joyce Brooks and Judy Brooks, both of Missouri; a son, Lyman Brooks, Jr.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, a grandson, two brothers and two sisters.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. today (Tuesday) at the Howard Funeral chapel in Leachville with David Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow in the Gainsville Cemetery near Paragould.
