Elmer Clyde McAfee, Sr., 85, of Flint, Mich., died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at his residence.

He was born in Caraway on Nov. 22, 1919, the son of Clyde and Ruth McAfee, and was a resident of Flint since Oct. 12, 1946.

He married Kathryn B. Ellis on Sept. 21, 1946. McAfee was employed by General Motors, Chevy V-8 Engine Plant for 41 years, retiring in 1987.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn; eight children and spouses, Donna and Alfred Compton of Flint, Brenda and David Hawkins of Alabama, Sandra McAfee of Davison, Mich., Elmer and Vickie McAfee of Flint, Mich., Mae and Lloyd Whitehead of Lennon, Mich., Doris and Ed O'Dell of Flushing, Mich., Melinda and Kevin Baker of Grand Blanc, Mich., Laurie and John Cram of Swartz Creek, Mich.; nine grandchildren, Andrew, Brent, Missy, Shaun, Timothy, David, Derek, Chris and Kourtney; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel Taylor of Caraway and Arlene Stone of Parma, Mich.; five brothers, J.A. McAfee of ElPaso, Texas, Carrol McAfee of Sikeston, Mo., James McAfee of Arnold, Mo., Doyle McAfee of Caraway and Jerry McAfee of Monette.

He was preceded in death by an infant grandson, his parents, six sisters and a brother.

The funeral was held at 1 p.m. Feb. 21, at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road with Hank Messing officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.
