J.E. Castleman Jr., 77, of Memphis, Mich., died Sept. 16, 2004, at Port Huron Mercy Hospital in Port Huron, Mich.

Born July 26, 1927, in Manila, he had lived the past 50 years in Memphis, Mich., where he worked at Grace Engineering until he retired.

When he was in the ninth grade at Black Water High School, the Castleman family moved to Whitton where he graduated from Whitton High School. He then attended Southern Baptist College at Walnut Ridge. He later returned to the Black Water community where he was an active member of the Black Water Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Rita, of the home; four daughters, Patricia Frye of Auburn Hills, Mich.; Donna Killinger of Memphis, Mich.; Ann Robertson of Lapeer, Mich.; Dianne Campbell of Elizabethtown, Ky.,; nine grandchildren; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Ell and Ola Dee Castleman of Moore, Okla., Clell and Della Castleman of Manila, Carl and Ora Lee Castleman of San Jose, Calif., and Gaylon and Betty Castleman of Highland, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.E. and Inez Castleman; a brother, Laudell Castleman; and a brother and sister-in-law, Billy Gene and Billie Jo Castleman.

Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Kammeroad Funeral Home in Memphis, Mich., with Dennis Nowinski officiating.
